Responsibilities

Throughout the construction process, Building Inspection is responsible for

• Permit issuance
• Plan review

Permits are required before performing:

• Alteration
• Any addition
• Any new construction
• Repair of existing:
  • Buildings
  • Electrical
  • Mechanical work
  • Plumbing
  • Structures

Adopted Code

The City of Roanoke has adopted the 2021 International Codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code. Please contact the Building Inspection Department for more information on specific requirements.
