Message from Mayor Gierisch

January was a very busy month in the great City of Roanoke. Texas weather is notoriously difficult to predict in the winter months. Our team did an excellent job of helping keep our community safe and warm through several cold weather fronts.

We welcomed several new businesses to Roanoke in the month of January. Roanoke continues to boast a strong economy and we look forward to welcoming many more new businesses to Roanoke this in 2024.

2023 was a banner year in Roanoke. I put together an annual recap presentation. Click here to see the presentation and learn more about all of the great things we have planned in 2024.

Our website is full of important updates and tips to maintain safety during these hot Texas summer months. Please visit the website, or call any of our talented departments, for assistance. You can also follow our social media pages for up to date information. Links to those pages are: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, NextDoor. I hope to see you soon enjoying Roanoke's beautiful amenities.

Message from City Manager Cody Petree

I am continually honored to lead our incredible team of dedicated staff. Our Public Safety teams served our community well as a train derailed and we experienced cold weather patterns in the month of January. Our dedicated staff are continually working to offer improved services to you, our citizens. Some highlights of their projects include:

  • Human Resources: The City of Roanoke is a great place to work! There are several opportunities to join the team. Click here to learn more and apply today,
  • Library, Museum & Visitor Center: In January, the library offered cooking programs, displays, and resources for all ages, including a budget-friendly cooking class for teens entering college, a chance to explore the relationship between chemistry and cooking in a family cooking program, and multiple book and video displays of cooking resources. The museum has also offered a temporary display of vintage Valentine's this month.  In February, the departments will celebrate Heart Health Month by hosting a blood drive, offering nutrition classes, displaying medical artifacts, and more.
  • Parks & Recreation & Special Events: The Parks and Recreation Department received a new shade cover for the Fairway Ranch playground and looks forward to installing the cover as soon as weather permits. New Roanoke Soccer Complex LED lights will be installed as soon as weather permits. The athletic field fence replacement project for FairPlay and Community Park is now complete. The Special Events division hosted the family favorite annual Valentine's Dance on February 9th. Nearly 350 people danced the night away and enjoyed games and fun at the Roanoke Recreation Center.

Our staff has welcomed several new additions to the team including:

  • Parker Brashear, Parks Maintenance Technician I
  • Amanda Meneses, Emergency Management Officer
Sharon Sullivan

Employee Spotlight: Sharon Sullivan

Each month we wish to introduce you to one of our awesome staff members. This month, our spotlight is on Sharon Sullivan, Public Library Circulation Clerk.

Sharon has worked with the City of Roanoke for 4 years. When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Sharon responded, "I love helping our patrons find just the right item. I also really enjoy processing items in the back and working with data before placing items in the front. I especially love making our displays and fin social media posts."

Outside of work, Sharon enjoys knitting, reading, sewing and hat making.

A fun fact about Sharon: She has worked at renaissance festivals for nearly 20 years and, for 8 of those years, she had her own hat shop.

Please be sure to stop Sharon next time you see her and thank her for all of her hard work.

Coming Up

  • February 19th: City Hall Closed- President's Day
